What is COALA?

COALA studies how the meanings of Latin words have changed over more than two thousand years. We combine expertise in Latin, historical linguistics, and computational linguistics, to develop computational methods for automatically identifying word meanings in historical texts. Our time-sensitive Natural Language Processing research will enable large-scale research on semantic change and variation in Latin and provide a methodology that can be applied to other (historical) languages.
